Irish Internet Association Launches Associate Membership

It seems that the Irish Internet Association has launched a cheaper membership option to try to bring in more members. The Associate membership of IIA is priced at 95 Euros per year and is aimed at designers, developers, consultants working in internet related fields according to IIA’s blurb. Exactly the kind of people who couldn’t be bothered to pay the expensive full membership fee in the first place. The associate membership will entitle the member to discounts on IIA seminars and events. Most of the events and seminars seem to be in Dublin or Cork so they are irrelevant to those in the internet industry outside those places. Ironically it was not possible to sign up for this new associate membership level as the IIA website had not been updated to include it yet. The IIA now has Corporate level membership at 495 Euros, SME level membership at 350 Euros, Individual membership at 220 Euros and Associate membership at 95 Euros. The 95 Euro membership does seem to be the more acceptable option.

Dear John
In response to your note re associate membership, we introduced this membership in response to a number of professionals within the sector working freelance and judging by the level of interest I would say that its a positive approach given the numbers of contractors particularly within the web development/consultant sector. The rate of 95 EUROS per year is less than many other professional organisations. Just to point out also that we are running over 30 events this year and if you check out the IIA web site you will see that over 50% of them are outside Dublin and Cork…..www.iia.ie

The €95 rate seems better value Irene,
Most of the web industry outside the big development companies would be in this category. Just looking at the latest stats for Irish hosters, about 400 or so are in the 7 domains or less hosted tier. Many of these would be freelancers who develop websites that are hosted on the bigger Irish web hosters. The online membership form on the IIA site doesn’t have the €95 option yet.

We are currently working on some upgrades to the IIA web site at the moment so I am hoping to have this online option shortly.
